Nel febbraio scorso da casa Mars Volta arrivavano le prime notizie attraverso le parole di Cedric Bixler-Zavala : ”New volta almost done. vocals done. just trying rebutcher it and add bass and finish guitar. in studio until this week then on to mexico to add more quantum entanglement to it. the sonogram of the little beast is looking very good”. A distanza di quasi un anno ecco il punto della situazione realizzato dal sempre puntuale sito The Mars Volta Italia : “abbiamo reperito in rete alcune news concrete riguardo all’attività attuale dei Mars Volta: un nuovo brano, intitolato Zed and Two Naughts , farà parte della colonna sonora del videogioco MLB 12 The Show . Interrogato da alcuni fan sul suo canale youtube, Cedric Bixler ha confermato la notizia, aggiungendo che tale brano farà parte del nuovo disco e che non è mai stato eseguito dal vivo finora. Riguardo al nuovo album, e questa sarebbe la notizia più succosa, il magazine spagnolo RockZone, attraverso un messaggio su twitter, ha comunicato che il prossimo disco dei Mars Volta si intitolerà In Absentia e che sarà pubblicato il 27 marzo . Da RockZone fanno sapere che l’informazione proverrebbe direttamente dalla Warner e che una advance copy dell’album sarebbe già in loro possesso. Sembrerebbe un’informazione legittima, aspettiamo ulteriori conferme…” .

8 gennaio: Cedric Bixler conferma la data ma “corregge” il titolo: “there is a song on the new volta that goes by the name in absentia but it is not the record title. I am afraid that is not the title of latest volta record. we will announce it soon. it really is just around the corner.”

13 gennaio: ‘Noctourniquet’ scheduled for March 27th (99% confirmed), new song (’Zed And Two Naughts’) to be revealed as part of the soundtrack to MLB 2012: The Show on March 6th.
